The image of Jupiter seen in Figure 1 can be improved with some increase in contrast.

There are several ways to increase the contrast in Photoshop:

• Brightness and Contrast
• Levels
• Curves

Here we will use the Levels command in Photoshop.

• Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels.

• Drag the Black Point slider to the right (Figure 2, Number 1).

• Drag the White Point slider to the left (Figure 2, Number 2).

• Adjust the amount of each based on the particular image.

In Figure 3 we can see the results of using Photoshop's Levels command to increase the contrast. The Levels command is better than the Brightness and Contrast command because it lets you see the image histogram while making the adjustments.
