The easiest way to get started in planetary photography is with simple single frames shot at the full resolution of the camera. Using Live View or a video mode is for more advanced high-resolution planetary photography. We can really get started with just the wide-angle kit lens that came with our DSLR and a tripod. Then we can advance to longer focal lengths with telephoto lenses and even small telescopes, still on a fixed tripod. Finally, we can try some high-magnification work, still shooting just a single frame in the camera. This type of work usually requires a tracking mount however. Single Frames |
