Messier 17 (left), in Sagittarius, and Messier 16 (right), in Serpens Cauda, are two large, bright, emission nebulae that are star forming regions.

They are located just to the north of M24, the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, in the summer Milky Way.

Both can be easily seen in binoculars.

North is to the right in the above image.
