NGC 4565, the Needle Galaxy, is an example of an edge-on Sb spiral galaxy.

It is bisected by a prominent dust lane that runs just north of the center of the galaxy.

It is 16 x 3 arcminutes in apparent size and magnitude 9.6 in apparent brightness. It is located in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a distance of 31 million light-years away.

NGC 4565 was discovered by William Herschel in 1785.

IC 3571 is a small, magnitude 17.38, galaxy recorded just to the north of NGC 4565.
