Messier 96 (left) and Messier 95 (right) are two spiral galaxies that are located in Leo.

M96 is located 41 million light-years away. Shining at magnitude 9.3 visually, it has an apparent size of 7.8 x 5.2 arcminutes.

M95 is located 35 million light-years away. It shines at magnitude 9.8 visually and has an apparent size of 4.4 x 5.0 arcminutes.

M96 and M95 are members of the Leo I group of galaxies, along with M105 and NGC 3299, 3377, 3384, 3412, 3489 and UGC 5889. Because M96 is the brightest member of this group, it is also called the M96 group.

M95 and M96 were both discovered by Pierre Méchain on March 20, 1781.
