NGC 2169, known as the "37" cluster, is a small open cluster in Orion.

It is so named because its stellar members appear to form the number "37", which, coincidentally, is a prime number.

NGC 2169 lies 53 arcminutes southwest of the magnitude 4.5 Xi Orionis.

NGC 2169 shines at magnitude 5.9 and is 7 arcminutes in diameter, spanning some 7 light-years in space . It is located 3,600 light-years away. It contains 30 stars, the brightest of which is magnitude 6.94.

It may have been known to Giovanni Batista Hodierna before 1654 but was definitely discovered by William Herschel in 1784.
