An equipment setup for solar photography uses a refractor with an aperture of 130mm and a Baader white-light solar filter. The camera is hooked up to a laptop to record Live View.

Basic Workflow

Here is a quick overview for an image capture workflow:

• Setup your equipment early and let the scope cool down.

• Collimate the telescope.

• Connect the camera and launch your camera control program.

• Focus on a star near your target with software focus metrics.

• Acquire and Frame the planet.

• Adjust the exposure by changing the shutter speed and ISO.

• Record the video.

  • Record 640 x 480 Movie Crop Mode in the camera.

  • Record Live View at 5x magnification to a computer.
