The summer Milky Way sets over observers and telescopes at the Black Forest Star Party. The amateur astronomers and their equipment were illuminated by red lights that they use to preserve their night vision. Every year hundreds of observers and astrophotographers flock to Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania for the star party which is held at one of the darkest observing sites on the east coast of North America. The dark skies at the park are officially recognized as a natural resource with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources declaring it the first "Dark Sky Park" in the state.
